Jeptha's Daughter- what actuallyt happened??

hi all, especially the scholars amongst you ;)a .

i was listening to richard dawkin's talk at lynchburg va and he was tlaking about how horrible the god of the old testament was- and he mentioned this: .

that when jeptha's daughter came out (and jeptha had promised god he'd sacrifice the first thing out of his house) that he had to sacrifice her as a burnt offering.

Remember that Abraham was told to sacrifice his son and he knew exactly what that meant. He prepared an altar and grabbed the weapon then when the big "J" stopped him an animal was promptly slaughtered so what do you think happend to that young woman.

He Got Reinstated . . .

feeling low today.

i haven't posted for a long time (forgotten log in details = new username) i'm in a good place with my family now and have built a life outside the religion.. today i found out a good friend has gone back and got himself reinstated to be able to have contact with his elderly mother.

that is the only reason apparently.

Each person has an inner voice that drives their "conscience" and I'm taking this out of the realm of religion and placing it around everything we thnk, do or say. Some people can live each day in an ambiguous place and sleep at night and others well they can't do that. When my voice inside screams "this isn't right" it won't let me ignore it no matter what the consequences and I will burn every bridge behind me. I don't know why but i can't rest until I'm in that straighforward place. Yes there is a trail of rubble behind me and what I'm saying is people do whatever their "conscience" for lack of a better word let's them do. You really can't put yourself in their shoes and it's easy to say they should be like me but they're not.

A QUESTION FOR JW'S who say, "The brothers were overly zealous" about 1975

"what was the actual significance of that year, then?".

if jw's were overly zealous, what was the exact amount of zeal encouraged by the wts for a non-event which took up.

It's clear now that the timeline used by the organization to create all the hoopla about 1975 is completley wrong. All the recent archeological finds have gone way past 6000 yrs which makes me think about one of the common reasons the org used to give for belief in the bible. "whenever it touched on matters of science it was correct and proves The big J's behind it". So the next move is "new light" he was just messing with us what a trickster he is. They never accept responsibility for being wrong they're always just the messenger of a fickle god like when he tells abraham kill your son and at the last minute fooled you again. What kind of "soveriegn of the universe" plays games like that.

We don't talk about it much anymore but we continue to discuss other related topics. We still ponder the meaning of life and sometimes we'll laugh about some of the jw buzz phrases. My husband will say " I've got to start my time " and I'll say " got any return visits" we laugh and we're happy we woke up from the nightmare.

It's a serial killer who creates victims holds them prisoner plays good cop bad cop tortures them and then finally destroys them and it's prisoners have no idea how to stop it.
